About Our League

Cape Fear Roller Derby pride themselves on being a skater owned and operated non-profit organization, built “for the skaters-by the skaters”.

CFRD is dedicated to the development of amateur athletes, encouraging the physical, mental, and emotional training needed while respecting and valuing the individual strengths each member contributes. All of our skaters are dedicated to community development and are actively involved in improving the areas in which we live.

Our skaters and volunteers are determined in their efforts on and off the track to develop and maintain a positive, supportive league and community, giving both money and time to other non-profits. We are proud to represent Wilmington, at home and on the road, competing in this empowering sport.

  • They are not called games, games are little fun things. In roller derby we call them bouts. As in “They are about to open a can of whoop-ass on you.” - Anonymous
  • Keep your friends close, and your enemies within ten feet of the pack. - Anonymous
  • Roller derby – It’s like playing speed chess, while bricks are being thrown at you. - Excerpt from 'Oh Hell No'

What is Roller Derby?

Roller derby is the world's fastest-growing sport because there's no other like it in the world.
It's a fast-paced contact team sport that requires speed, strategy, and athleticism. Check out this brief video to see how the game works.

Team Expenses

It's not cheap to operate a roller derby league, and our skaters aren't paid. In fact, our skaters pay dues and volunteer time to help keep our league going. If you want to help sponsor CFRD to keep us playing, please click the button below. Read More
