CFRG welcomes competitive women from all walks of life who can dedicate the time and energy it takes to become a roller derby skater. You must be at least 18 years old to play roller derby.
It certainly helps if you are already athletic or have skating experience, but it is not required. All you need is a positive attitude, an open mind, and the willingness to work your butt off, skate hard, and learn. Equipment is available to borrow if you do not have your own to start off.
If you move forward, you will enter into our CFRG New Recruit Bootcamp where you will learn the skills necessary to become a Cape Fear Roller Girl. To sign up, visit our Facebook Event Page to RSVP and then come to registration night!
If you want to be part of the Cape Fear Roller Girls but…
A.) do not identify as female ~OR~
B.) aren’t sure if you like the idea of getting knocked around;
come to tryouts to show us you can skate and find out about joining our fantastic referee or NSO crew!
Not sure if this is for you, but know somebody who may want to be involved? Do us all a favor and share this event with them. Thank you and we hope to see you there!

Hi Liz,
Boot camp and team practices (outside of tryouts night) are private and closed to public spectators, but if you want to see what derby is like, we encourage you to come to our game this weekend! You can ask us all the questions and learn more. Many of our new recruits will be there as well so you can get their thoughts on how the program is going. We are all super happy to talk derby! If you are unsure of whether the new recruit program will be something you are interested in, you might want to come to our meet and greet in July. Anytime if you have questions, you can always email us at info@capefearrollergirls.com or post questions on our Facebook page. Oh- we are ALWAYS accepting people who want to learn how to be a NSO (non-skate official). We train you! By coming to NSO nights you help us at our scrimmages and during games. It’s an easy way to witness derby from the inside, get to know the girls and to see if it’s something you want to try! We are always in need of Refs an NSO’s so this would be a great option. We hope to meet you soon!

Hey! I was thinking of trying out but I thought tryouts were August 9, and therefore, thought I had missed it. But I know how to skate and I already workout, and after a lot of prodding from people I just wanted to reach out and see if you need people . I want to give it a try if you still need people. Thanks!
