05. Additional Info
Cape Fear Roller Derby is Wilmington’s premier flat track roller derby league. The league is made up of strong, diverse people of all ages and from all walks of life. Originally founded in 2005 as The Cape Fear Roller Derby, we worked diligently to be recognized as a member of the worldwide Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). We earned this coveted honor in 2010. In 2023, we changed our name to Cape Fear Roller Derby in an effort to be more inclusive to skaters in our community, and opened up the league to all genders. Post COVID we are currently working to rebuild our Charter team and return to WFTDA rankings.
As a skater owned and operated nonprofit organization, Cape Fear Roller Derby pride ourselves on being a league “for the skaters, by the skaters.” We are dedicated to the development of member athleticism and encourage the physical, mental and emotional training needed while respecting and valuing the individual strengths each member contributes to the league. All of our skaters are passionate about community development and are actively involved in improving the areas in which we live.
Our skaters and volunteers are steadfast in their efforts on and off the track to develop and maintain a positive, supportive league and community by contributing both time and money to other non-profit organizations. We are proud to represent Wilmington at home and on the road while competing in the remarkable sport of Roller Derby.
Cape Fear Roller Derby aims to provide quality, entertaining, and family-friendly events that benefit our entire community. A percentage of the proceeds from each home bout are donated to a local (charitable) nonprofit organization. Over $15,000 has been donated towards making our community a better place.
