Fiona Fatale – Featured Skater of the Month
Ever wonder what your favorite roller girls are like in real life? The Cape Fear Roller Girls are women from all walks of life who are united by our passion for roller derby. In our new monthly series, we’ll be pulling back the curtain and showing you what CFRG’s skaters do when we’re not on skates.
Our very first featured skater for the month of June is #2, Fiona Fatale.
- On the Track
On the track, Fiona Fatale pulls double duty as both a Jammer and a Blocker.
- For the League
For the league, Fiona is a member of the CFRG Skills Committee. So each week in addition to team practices, Fiona teaches our New Recruits all the skills needed to pass the WFTDA Minimim Skills test, so that we continue to add and develop new skaters to our team throughout the year.
- Off the Track
In real life, she works for a Contract Research Organization supporting businesses in the life sciences industry with conducting and managing clinical trials.
What does that mean? According to Fiona herself, “To make it easy, I am a process improvement/business analyst within the quality group with a focus on Information Governance. Let’s just say I spend a lot more time in Excel than I ever expected to!”
- At Home
At home, Fiona is mom to a Border Collie mix who she says is too smart for her own good. Fiona is also a self-proclaimed sci-fi and fantasy nerd and quilting enthusiast. “I recently went to a quilting convention (yes, that’s a thing) and it was almost like being in a museum. Very cool stuff.”
Before becoming a roller girl, she was a ballet dancer for 10 years.
- Why She Skates
Now, Fiona says roller derby keeps her active and social. “Derby gets me out of the house and active. Otherwise, I would Netflix binge alllllll the time.”
Her favorite thing about derby is “the community and cooperativeness”.
She says, “You can walk into almost any town/country, look up a roller derby team, and be welcomed with open arms.”
Got something to say?
